Yeovilton Air Day 2018

In July 2018 the Aviation Photocrew were flying out of Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon, photographing aircraft arriving for that year's edition of the Royal Navy International Air Day at RNAS Yeovilton, and I was lucky enough to join them for some photo missions.

The Air Day is the primary Royal Navy air show of the year, and as such it attracted a nice lineup of aircraft for both the static and flying displays. While I was unable to join the Skyvan for all flights, I still was able to photograph 16 different displays from the very old to the very new.

The displays included, amongst others, a very old Royal Navy Historic Flight Swordfish, a pair of French Marine Nationale Dassault Rafales, a pair of RAF Typhoons, a Percival Provost warbird, an RAF Chinook, a German Marineflieger Lockheed P-3 Orion and a brand new US Navy Boeing P-8 Poseidon.

A total of 16 formations and types were photographed during my time with the Photocrew at Dunkeswell.

The star attraction has to have been the Royal Canadian Air Force Solo Display Boeing CF-188 Hornet, although in saying that, the opportunity to try and get rotor blur on the RAF Chinook, Royal Navy Merlin and RNLAF Cougar, as well as trying to get a sharp shot of Rich Goodwin as he zipped around the sky, was most welcome.
